"Loaded Dice" Accepted to Attleboro Arts Museum Exhibit
I'm honored to share that my work has been selected for the upcoming nationally juried exhibition "Reign, Rain, Rein" at the Attleboro Arts Museum, opening June 14th.
The juror for this year's show was Gordon Wilkins, the Robert M. Walker Curator of American Art at the Addison Gallery of American Art, Phillips Academy, Andover.
My selected piece, "Loaded Dice", is a multi-layered construction created on dura-lar, plexiglass, and aluminum composite. It incorporates a diverse range of materials, including ink, pigment transfers, graphite, colored pencil, painted papers, reemay, silk thread, copper wire, aluminum, and dice. Below is my artist statement, written in response to the exhibition’s theme. It will accompany the work during the show:
"Loaded Dice" explores the seductive nature of power and how easily illusion can obscure truth. In an age of constant vigilance—smart locks, surveillance, passwords—we’re trained to guard against threats. Yet the most dangerous cons often come from those seeking to control others. These individuals cloak themselves in charisma, using deception, flattery, and fear to dazzle and distract while pulling strings behind the scenes. The con, after all, is as old as time.
This piece began with an interest in power dynamics and evolved through layered experimentation. The central figure—a crowned, jack-in-the-box-like form—appears whimsical at first glance. But beneath the surface lies a darker narrative: shadowy corners, aghast faces, and figures dangling by a thread.
Despite the playful palette, Loaded Dice invites us to look deeper. Behind the dazzle, it warns of the high stakes—personal, political, and psychological—when we trade discernment for comfort, and truth for spectacle.
The Opening Awards Reception will be Saturday, June 14th, from 2-4 pm. It is free and open to all. Reservations are not required (but are appreciated). RSVP directly to the museum by email or call 508-222-2644 (x10).
